Cut Flower Selection Tips
June 12, 2013Here are a few great tips for choosing the perfect components for a stunning floral arrangement.
Select blooms that are tight and just beginning to open.
Be sure to check for firm stems and healthy green leaves. (Yellow, spotted or drooping leaves are signs of age)
When using woody stems and branches, cut the stem with sharp pruning shears.
Choose a waterproof container that is deep enough and wide enough to allow flowers to breathe and absorb water – add fresh flower food. Use anything from an antique colored drinking cup, silver tea sets and water pitchers. The ideas are endless. Use your imagination and go for it!
Remove all foliage that may be covered by water.
Cut the stems at a diagonal and place immediately in water.
Every three to four days, give your flowers a fresh diagonal cut and change the water and flower food.
Remove any deteriorating foliage.
No floral arrangement can be perfect, but each one can be stunning and beautiful. Don’t stress out over the placement of every single flower; if it looks good, then relax and let it be.
Enjoy!
